Creating a successful one-person business through writing online isn't about fancy strategies or complex systems. It's not about becoming a writer, it's about being an entrepreneur who writes. It's about consistent effort, smart choices, and a focusing on what matters. Here's how to do it:

CHOOSE WHERE TO WRITE

To start building your one person writing business choose your writing platform(s). It's always a good idea to start with what you know. If you're a beginner learn one platform at a time, master it and then add more. For me, that means focusing on a my blog, Medium, writing a newsletter. You don't need to be everywhere - pick a platform that resonate with you and master it.

Decide what you'll write about and develop a content strategy. Choose topics you're knowledgeable about or willing to learn more about. Create a simple content calendar to keep yourself accountable. Aim for regular posting, even if it's just once a week.

Write consistently

The core of your business is your writing. Set aside dedicated time each day or week for creating content. Don't aim for perfection. Create a minimum viable post and focus on sharing valuable insights and information that can help your readers. You can always go back and update or "fix" the article if its resonating and ranking.

Start collecting email addresses from day one. Offer a simple newsletter with your latest posts or exclusive content. A direct connection with your readers is valuable for building a loyal audience. Use email marketing tools such as Beehiiv or ConvertKit to get started.

Monetize your knowledge

Once you've built an audience, look into ways to monetize your writing. This could be through affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, or creating your own products like ebooks or courses
